Deep Fried Mashed Potato With Cheese & Green Chile
Marcy was inspired by a viral TikTok recipe for a deep-fried mashed potato sandwich filled with melted cheese. They decided to recreate it with their own twist by adding Hatch green chile, even though they weren’t sure of the recipe’s exact name.

Ingredients
- 3 Medium to large potatoes
- 2 Tbsp. Melted butter
- 5 Tbsp. Flour
- Salt & pepper to taste (I also used garlic salt)
- Grated cheese of your choice
- Hatch green chile chopped
*You'll also need plenty of oil for frying and some plastic wrap for shaping the stuffed sandwich.
Instructions
- Boil potatoes in water until fork tender. (I recommend peeling them first and cutting them into large cubes for faster cooking.) Mash cooked/peeled potatoes in large bowl.
- Add melted butter, flour, and seasonings and continue to mix until as smooth as possible. Cut a large piece of plastic wrap and drizzle with a little olive oil to prevent sticking.
- Then place up to half of the potato mixture on the center of the plastic wrap. (The amount will depend on whether you want to make two or three fried sandwiches.) Press potato mixture with fingertips into a round disk.
- Add shredded cheese and chopped green chile to the center. Then, using the sides of the plastic wrap, fold over the edges on all four sides. Press down to shape it into a rectangle.
- Then, remove plastic wrap and fry in hot oil, turning over once so that both sides are a golden brown. Remove from oil and let excess oil drain onto paper towels. Enjoy!
