Autumn in Albuquerque is a truly magical time. The weather is ideal, with crisp mornings and warm afternoons complemented by gentle winds, making it the perfect season for ballooning. Our unique geography, nestled between the lower river valley and the higher mountain range to the east, creates the renowned “Albuquerque Box” phenomenon. This natural wonder guides balloons in a box pattern, often returning them to their starting point, making Albuquerque a global hub for ballooning enthusiasts.
The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta has captivated the world for over half a century. What began with just 13 balloons in a shopping mall parking lot in 1972 has become the most photographed event on the planet. Today, our launch field alone spans an astonishing 60 acres, equivalent to 54 football fields, to accommodate the 500+ balloons that grace our skies during the Fiesta.

Balloon Fiesta is a weather dependent event and tickets are nonrefundable.
Safety of all of our Balloon Fiesta guests, including pilots and crews, will always come first regarding making decisions whether the balloons inflate. While October is generally ideal for ballooning in Albuquerque, less than ideal weather at Balloon Fiesta Park or in the vicinity, can sometimes prevent the balloons from inflating. If the decision to not allow the balloons to inflate is made, Balloon Fiesta will rain-check that session. You are still welcome to enjoy all of the amenities Balloon Fiesta has to offer for the remainder of the session and your ticket will be re-activated in the form of a General Admission ticket, valid for any remaining session in the current year. The status of Balloon Fiesta sessions will be available on the Website and Official App.
