Marie Yniguez’s early life was full of trials—coping with her brother’s suicide, becoming a mother at just 19, and a transformative stint in the Army.

Yet, through it all, she discovered her passion for food, sharpening her culinary skills in kitchens across the U.S. After feeding thousands of schoolchildren, she now heads the kitchen at Slow Roasted Bocadillos in Albuquerque.

The restaurant is known for its irresistible sandwiches, which have earned praise from both locals and Food Network celebrities.
