Bread Pudding – Capirotada
Red or Green?This recipe is just too good not to make ANY time of year: Bread Pudding, also known as "Capirotada". This is a traditional Lenten/Good Friday dessert with toasted bread, raisins, condensed milk, cinnamon, and cheddar cheese -- that's right, cheddar cheese! It's absolutely delicious. Ingredients
- 1 loaf Day Old French Bread Or Texas toast
- ¼ cup Pure Cane Sugar
- 1 cup Hot Water
- 1 5 oz can Sweetened Condensed Milk
- ½ - 1 cup Raisins Soaked in warm water
- 2 cups Cheddar or Longhorn Cheese
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
Instructions
- Slice bread into 1 inch slices if using French loaf and toast on a sheet pan in the oven.
- Once toasted, butter the toast and dice into 1-inch squares.
- Set aside.
- Put sugar into a saucepan and brown slightly, add hot water slowly and cook until all sugar has melted.
- Now add sweet milk, cinnamon and cook for about 5 minutes until all the flavors combine.
- Pull off the heat and let cool slightly.
- Using a bread pan, or cake pan, layer bread squares on the bottom of the pan, then raisons and cheese.
- Repeat the layers until all ingredients are gone.
- Now pour syrup on top of layers.
- Bake at 375 for approximately 10 minutes, or until bread pudding is slightly browned on top.
- Let cool before serving.
- It is delicious with whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream.
