Materials

For Homemade Dinner Rolls

  • 2 cups Water Warm(105º F)
  • 1 tbsp. Dry Yeast Active
  • 1 tbsp. Sugar
  • 2 tsp. Kosher Salt
  • 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 5 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • Flaky Sea Salt For Garnish

For the Egg Wash

  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tbsp. Water/Milk

Instructions

  • Put 2 cups of lukewarm water in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add in dry yeast and sugar, and mix just enough to where it dissolves. Let stand for 5 minutes. It should become frothy.
  • Mix in kosher salt and 1 Tbsp. olive oil. Quickly stir, then add flour. If using an electric stand mixer with a dough hook, start at low speed, then increase to medium-low.
  • The dough should become tacky. Take the dough out of the mixing bowl and place it on a floured surface.
  • Knead by hand a few minutes longer, until the ball forms and the dough is no longer sticky.
  • Rest dough in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and set in a warm place until the dough has doubled in size. (About 1 hour)
  • Remove the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly.
  • Divide the dough to form the desired number of rolls. (About 16) Place on greased baking sheet or pan.
  • Leave an inch apart if you want them to stand alone, or place them closer together for pull-apart rolls.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and let rest for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 425º F.
  • Whisk together egg and water or milk in a small bowl to make an egg wash.
  • Remove plastic wrap and brush tops of rolls with egg wash.
  • Lightly sprinkle with flaky sea salt. Bake until golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.
