There’s no need to overcomplicate Arroz con Leche, or Sweet Rice. Marcy Inspired’s recipe is quick, comforting, and made with pantry staples like long grain rice, milk, cinnamon, and sugar. Whether served for breakfast or dessert, this version is creamy, lightly sweetened, and perfect for warming the soul. Add raisins, nuts, or ground cinnamon to make it your own.

Equipment

  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Heaping cup long grain rice
  • 3 cups Water
  • 2 Cinnamon sticks
  • ¼ tsp Salt (a pinch)
  • cups Whole milk
  • ½ cup Sugar (add more after tasting, if you want it sweeter)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract (a dash)
  • Ground cinnamon for garnish (optional)
  • Raisins or nuts (optional)

Instructions
 

  • In large pot over medium high heat, add rice, water, pinch of salt, and cinnamon sticks.
  • Bring to boil, then reduce heat and let simmer on low approx.
  • 15 mins so that the water is absorbed into the rice.
  • Then add in milk, sugar, and vanilla extract and let it continue to cook at a low simmer until rice is fully cooked and you're left with a creamy, somewhat runny consistency.
  • Taste to ensure your level of sweetness and adjust if necessary.
  • Serve while hot, garnishing with additional ground cinnamon.
