FIDEOS: Classic Mexican Comfort Food, Perfect in its Simplicity
Marcy InspiredWhen it comes to Classic Mexican Comfort Food, Fideos is high on the list. This dish is perfect in its simplicity, and it also happens to be very inexpensive to make. If you're a broke and starving college student, you definitely need to make this. Fideos can be enjoyed as a side dish, as you'll see in this video, or you can have fideos as a soup, called "Sopa de Fideos." Either way, you're going to love it. Read on for the easy recipe.

Equipment
- Large skillet
- Wooden spoon or spatula
- Measuring spoons
- Can opener
Ingredients
- 1 7oz. Package of fideos (or vermicelli cut into pieces)
- 1/4 of an onion, chopped finely
- 1 8oz. Can of tomato sauce
- 2 - 4 cups Of water (I used just over 2 cups. If you want this as a soup, use 3 or 4 cups)
- Salt & pepper (I use approx. 1/2 tsp. salt & 1/4 tsp. pepper)
- 1/2 tsp. Garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp. Cumin
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet on stovetop over medium high.
- Put just enough vegetable oil in it to coat the bottom of the pan.
- When hot, add in fideos and stir continuously while they begin to toast.
- Add in chopped onion and continue mixing until most of the fideos are golden brown in color.
- Add in can of tomato sauce. Stir.
- Add in water. Stir. Mix in seasonings.
- Let it come to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
- Simmer for 15 minutes until fideos are cooked tender.
- Then remove from burner, let cool a few minutes, and enjoy!
