HOMEMADE STUFFING WITH APPLES AND PECANS

This easy recipe for Homemade Stuffing with Apples and Pecans may on your list of favorite side dishes. It's got all the classic flavors you want from a stuffing, but then add to that apples and pecans, and it just puts this over the top!

Materials

  • 2 Baguettes or a Large Loaf Rustic Bread
  • 1 3/4 sticks Butter Unsalted
  • 1 Large White Onion Finely Chopped
  • 1 1/2 cup Celery Chopped
  • 1 Tart Apple Cut in Small Pieces
  • 1/4 cup Pecans Chopped
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups Chicken Broth
  • 1/2 cup Fresh Parsley Chopped
  • 1 tbsp. Fresh Sage Chopped
  • 1 tbsp. Fresh Rosemary Chopped
  • 1 tsp. Fresh Thyme Chopped
  • 2 tsp. Salt
  • 1 tsp. Pepper

Instructions

  • Cut bread into cubes.
  • Place cut pieces onto a cookie sheet and bake at 200º until bread becomes dry.
  • Transfer to a large mixing bowl and let cool.
  • Heat a large skillet over the stove and melt butter.
  • Once melted, add chopped onion and celery and sauté.
  • When onion gets translucent, add chopped apples and pecans and cook just a few minutes longer.
  • Take a skillet off the stove and pour contents over bread cubes.
  • Toss in all the herbs and salt and pepper and mix—Preheat the oven to 350º.
  • In a separate large bowl, whisk together eggs and chicken broth.
  • Pour over the bread mixture and gently mix until well incorporated.
  • Take additional butter and coat the casserole/baking dish.
  • Transfer your bread mixture into it.
  • Cover with foil and bake covered for 40 minutes.
  • Remove foil and let bake an additional 40 minutes until the top is golden brown.
